Open Question: Good vacations spots in the West...during the winter?

My college age friends and I (19-21) are looking at taking a vacation this December and don't know where to go! We are from Portland and would like to go somewhere fun, not super spendy, and preferably warm (since oregon just rains all winter!) anyone have any suggestions? And why/ what is there to do there?
